The memory came faint and cold of the story I might have told, a story in the likeness of my life, I mean without the courage to end or the strength to go on.

Dylan Thomas

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

O bien

W.B. Yeats - El vino entra en la boca

El vino entra en la boca

El vino entra en la boca
Y el amor entra en los ojos;

W.B. Yeats

A Drinking Song

Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

W.B. Yeats

(Traducción de Carlos Jiménez Arribas)

LEDA AND THE SWAN

A sudden blow: the great wings beating still
Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.

How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?

A shudder in the loins engenders there
The broken wall, the burning roof and tower
And Agamemnon dead.
                                           Being so caught up,
So mastered by the brute blood of the air,
Did she put on his knowledge with his power
Before the indifferent beak could let her drop?

W.B. Yeats - Con el tiempo llega la sabiduría

CON EL TIEMPO LLEGA LA SABIDURÍA

Serán muchas las hojas, raíz una sola;
pasé todos mis días de juventud mendaz
al sol balanceando mis flores y mis hojas;
ahora la verdad me puede marchitar.

W.B. Yeats

Antología poética. Selección y prólogo de Seamus Heaney. Versión rimada de Daniel Aguirre. Lumen, 2005.

THE COMING OF WISDOM WITH TIME

Though leaves are many, the root is one;
Through all the lying days of my youth
I swayed my leaves and flowers in the sun;
Now I may wither into the truth.

W.B. Yeats

MEMORY

One had a lovely face,
And two or three had charm,
But charm and face were in vain
Because the mountain grass
Cannot but keep the form
Where the mountain hare has lain.
