This work is a subtle composition by Francis Picabia among his series of ultra-realistic portraits of women from the 1940’s. This work is most notable for its popular naturalistic style explored by the artist since the beginning of the Second World War. Established in the free zone, in the area of Golfe-Juan, Francis Picabia embarked on the expression of a heterodox modernity, halfway between genre scene and the erotic nude, breaking with his early figurative paintings.
